Abel

"According to the Christian bible, Abel was the younger son of Adam and Eve, his older brother was Cain. It is said that when Cain and Abel made their offerings to god, that Abel's offering was favored over Cain's. Cain then killed his brother in the fields, and when god questioned him to Abel's whereabouts, Cain asked "Am I my brothers keeper?". God then asked what he had done, Abel's blood cries out to him from the ground.

After that, God cursed Cain, condeming him to walk the earth as a Vagabond. God put a mark on his forehead as a warning to anyone who would try to murder Cain, if they killed him, their death would be 7 times worse than Cain's. "

In this game, they sort of based Abel's story on this. Abel was onboard the Eldridge in the games opening. Just before Deus took over the ships computers, Abel came into contact with the Zohar, which was stored in a contained area of the Eldridge. I'm not quite sure how he managed to get into this area, I speculate he just accidentally wandered in there while looking for his mother around the ship. (Xenosaga's next few episodes may explain what actually took place.) As mentioned earlier,Elhaym resting inside the Zohar. Abel was searching for his mother, it being the main thing on his mind, the Zohar sensed his desire for a mother. I believe this is when it created Elhaym. The flashback during the latter half of the game, where Abel is looking at the Zohar and you can see that Elahym is in the center of it's eye supports this claim.

The Zohar in it's Chambers aboard the Eldridge. Possibly as this is happening, the Eldridge is being attacked by Deus, and is about to be destroyed. Even if time passes between the two incidents, Abel survived the Eldridges self-destruct explosion because of the Zohars protection.

Abel, alone and only a child, arrives on the planet below, which is un-inhabited by humans. Meanwhile, a peice of Deus' core smashes into the ground. This peice still functions, and actives System Kadomony, a biological system that produces human beings, in hopes that one day they will revive Deus so it may continue it's journey. (I will explain this later) A single woman arose from it's chambers, she was -The Mother-, the first human. From there, she created 12 other humans, these are the Gazel Ministers, and Cain, who will become Emperor Cain of Solaris. After this was completed, -The Mother- died, splitting into two beings: Miang, the woman who is programmed to work toward the revival of Deus, and Elhaym, the eternal companion of Fei/Abel. I'm guessing that, had Abel not made contact with Zohar earlier, that Miang would have been the only being created, since Elhaym was created by Fei's desire for a mother.

Elhaym soon meets with Abel. The weird thing being that in the flashback of Abel crying in the desert (when he first arrives on the planet), Elhaym comes to him and comforts him, but she is older. Then again, Fei could have been envisioning her from a different point in history, possibly when she was Sophia.

Later on, when the "Contact" (Abel/Fei), and the "Antitype" (Elhaym) are older, there is a point where you see them fleeing emperor Cain and the Gazel, Elhaym is hit by a blast of ether energy (from Cain). She drops to the ground bleeding, and in her final breathes she screams "Abel Live!". It does not show Abel's death, but it is assumed that he dies soon after.

So, Abel and Cain were bases on the Cain and Abel in the bible in the fact that they were "brothers" (being that both of them were actual humans) and that Cain killed Abel.
